2/1/25 marks the celebration of Imbolc on the Celtic Wheel of the Year, and it is also St. Brigid’s Day. Imbolc symbolizes the halfway point between the winter solstice (Yule) and the spring equinox (Ostara). The word “imbolc” means “in the belly of the Mother,’ because the seeds of spring are beginning to stir in the belly of Mother Earth. Let us honor the seeds that are stirring in our own bellies as we continue to grow and transform, allowing our inner landscape to mirror the outer landscape.
St Brigid, one of three patron saints of Ireland, is well known for forming the monastery at Kildare. She is also considered a patron saint of healers and poets and is associated with creativity, womanhood, and keeping the hearth fire lit. Her sacred flame is still maintained by the Brigidine Sisters in Kildare. In beautiful Celtic fashion, St Brigid’s story is often intertwined with the Goddess Brigid. Below, I am sharing a traditional prayer to St. Brigid.
Much Love and Wild Blessings!
Prayer to St. Brigid
Brigid,
You were a woman of peace
You brought harmony where there was conflict
You brought light to the darkness
You brought hope to the downcast
May the mantle of your peace cover
those who are troubled and anxious
and may peace be firmly rooted in our
hearts and in our world.
Inspire us to act justly and to reverence all God has made.
Brigid, you were a voice for the
wounded and the weary
Strengthen what is weak within us.
Calm us into a quietness that heals and listens.
May we grow each day into greater
wholeness in mind, body, and spirit
