In the Gaelic language,
Anam is the word for 'soul,' and
Cara is the word for 'friend.'
So, Anam Cara means 'soul friend.'
The Anam Cara friendship is a profound, timeless bond where two people connect on a deep, soulful level. This type of friendship transcends space and time, creating an eternal, mutual recognition and belonging. It offers a sacred, spiritual space for all other emotional needs, fostering intimacy and a lasting connection between the friends.

About Us
Blessings! We are Ethan and Karyn Teed. Since we were married at the end of 2016, we have been dreaming together about how we can better tend this land we live on. Anam Cara Fields has evolved over the years, but it started with the small idea of having a lavender field. Karyn wanted a walking labyrinth, as well, and Ethan had the incredible idea to combine the two ideas into one... After two years of hand mixing dirt, pouring carefully measured mounds, and planting over two hundred lavender plants, it is finished. Now, Anam Cara Fields has become so much more! We welcome you to spend a little or as much time as you need wandering the land, sitting along side the calming ponds, strolling through flower gardens, and immersing yourself with the history and wonder of these beautiful ancestral lands.
Ethan Teed
Ethan Teed spent the first 30 plus years of his life reveling in the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. For the past 17 years, he’s called Bellingham, Washington home and continually rekindles his awe and wonder of the natural world in the North Cascades mountains, the Salish Sea, and the temperate rainforests of the Pacific Northwest. This relationship with the natural world has led to a deeply grounded spirituality rooted in creation and the sacramental nature of our world. He is a graduate of the Seminary of the Wild Earth program through The Center for Wild Spirituality, and is now in his second year working as a Guide for this program. He completed the Wild Church Leadership program in the spring of 2024. Ethan is also currently enrolled in the Wild Guide/EcoSpiritual Direction program through The Center for Wild Spirituality, culminating in his Ordination in June 2025. He completed an EcoSpirituality Leaders program through the BTS Center, which included training in ‘forest bathing/nature therapy.’ In addition, he’s completed training on facilitating “The Work That Reconnects Spiral” and in leading ritual and ceremony through Joanna Macy’s Work That Reconnects network. He is also the co-founder and co-facilitator of the Universal Sailing Men’s Group, exploring the journey towards embodying the mature, healthy, divine masculine. Ethan is an engaged member of the Whatcom County Multifaith Network for Climate Justice and Stillpoint at Beckside spiritual community. He and his wife, Karyn, recently began facilitating a variety of spiritual offerings on the land they are blessed to tend, Anam Cara Fields. They spent the past two years creating one of the world’s only walking lavender labyrinths. In November 2024, Ethan and Karyn launched Wild Spirituality at Anam Cara Fields, part of the Wild Church Networ. Alongside of Ethan’s engagement in spirituality and studies, he is a husband, a father of four young adults, and is employed as a critical care RN.

Karyn Teed
Karyn Teed grew up in the valley on the Nisqually tribal lands surrounded by evergreen trees, hobby farm animals, and 20 acres of pure imagination. She has training in ritual work with Joanna Macy's Work That Reconnects network, as well as several years as a yoga instructor and dancer. She has gained wisdom through various programs including The Celtic Spirituality School through Spiritual Wanderlust, Facing the World with Soul with Francis Weller, and Falling Upward sessions through the Center for Action and Contemplation with Fr. Richard Rohr. She is a graduate of the Seminary of the Wild Earth through The Center for Wild Spirituality, and will finish her certification as an EcoSpiritual Director, as well as her Wild Ordination in June 2025. She has led community worship for a lot of her life, and finds herself closest to the Great Spirit when singing at the top of her lungs with her feet in the ocean. She is also an active participant of the Stillpoint at Beckside community where she had led offerings on embodied prayer and chants. She once had a passion to perform on the stage, but these days finds herself sharing and tending to her little bit of earth, Anam Cara Fields, with her very own viking, Ethan, and their menagerie. Together, they share four beautiful children.
